5 stars for the third book in the Makers Song series. I've loved this series right from the very first page, it has never failed to disappoint me and now by the time we at the third book things are just getting better. In Beneth the Skin the story continues with the Fallen trying to bind Dante, various vampire families trying to find him for totally different purposes and the FBI and SB also in the mix together with those who wish to use him for their own malicialous purposes and those who wish [...]

Several months ago when I picked up the first of this series. I wasn't sure what I was expecting. I was looking for something a little different I had seen the first book Rush of Wings when it came across my desk to be checked out. read the back and thought: hmmmmmm could be interestingNow. 3rd book in It defiantly surpassed ‘could be interesting’. Odd thing… is I’m not sure I can pin point WHY exactly. What is it about these characters that I just HAVE to know more about? I attempted to [...]

It's a good book. It's an interesting book. It's a book that is crammed with too many different perspectives. I was honestly hoping that this would be the last installment, but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. It's not that I don't think there is more of the story to tell, but I really don't look forward to the chaos of trying to keep up with all of the different characters and and their particular story lines. Most of them don't seem to matter in the grand scheme of things anyw [...]

I am a huge fan of Adrian Phoenix and her Dante series, but this book just didn’t do it for me. To sum it up, after the events of last book (In The Blood) Heather, Von and Annie try to get Dante back to his home in New Orleans, whilst trying to save his life from various different “people” and trying to help him keep his sanity. This book is NOT a stand alone, you must read the previous two books before you’ll have any idea what is going on. That said, within the first 100 pages there wer [...]

Adrian Phoenix continues to impress me with her wonderful Maker's Song series. The world inhabited by Dante and Heather is both dark and wonderful. Dante's tragic past continues to unravel, resulting in both tragic and awe inspiring consequences. The Bad Seed program's ugly truth continues to be revealed and relationships are both tested and strengthened. There is so much going on in the book - possibly a bit too much at some times (I admit I had a difficult time keeping all the feds straight), b [...]

ACK!!!!!!!1/2 way done with this book and it's like reading the written version of a drug induced diatribe of insanity.Seriously I hate this book. NOTHING makes sense and I've read the previous two books in the series. I even really liked book 2.So so sad. I guess in the end I'm simply not connecting with the author. What is kind of story is she trying to write? This thing may be classified Urban Fantasy but it pulls in so many genre's that it's simply chaos. I want more of Heather and Dante and [...]

I have tried, very very hard to keep reading this series, but I'm sorry Ms. Phoenix, I can't do it anymore. I felt that the whole series was pointless. From one trap to another evil person, to someone else that wants to use/bind/keep Dante, to the vampires and them wanting to use/bind/keep/taste, to the Fallen that want to bind/keep/use him and so on so forth. One of the books so far in this series is a span of 24-48h. With of course the whole memory jumping and stuff It was okay at the beginnin [...]

Book 3 of the Maker’s Song series by Adrian Phoenix picks very quickly after where book 2 left off. In fact the entire events of Beneath the Skin take place over just about a week. So much is going on in these few days that several times I wondered if time just ran differently in their world. Ok not really, but seriously if I could get as much done in a day as these guys I would be superwoman! In Beneath the Skin Heather and Dante find themselves stuck trying to deal with the aftermath of all t [...]

I have to confess that up until the second book of this series, I was completely obsessed. A Rush of Wings was perfect and In the Blood was really good, but I'm disapoointed with this third one. First of all, I felt that there was too much time and space devoted to the new characters. This would have been fine if there were two or three new ones, but there are a lot more than that. Worse, I didn't care for them at all; not even to keep track of their names to tell them apart. At one point, I fou [...]

Beneath the Skin is another great addition to the "Maker's Song" series. There are so many things about this series I love the non-stop action, the hottie vamp with a tortured past he struggles with, more and more, ever minute while sharing a deep bond and love for a tough, spunky chick. I love Von, the keeper of history, the nomad Nightkind, Llygad. I want more of him. The only downside is the amount of back and forth with the different agencies and all their agents. At some point I think I ju [...]

Speechless! Though definatly still a cliffhanger of an endingwhen is Etched in Bone coming out??? Honestly, I have not been able to put any of this series down. There of course have been some resolutions, but there are still lots of unanswered questions. Dante: "My Way, My Terms, We Clear?" Love it!!!! I will admit (as another reviewer indicated) there are a lot of characters that seem like they don't have much to do with the story or we are wondering why there are still around, well I am quite [...]

This book picks up literally minutes after the last one and the last one ended on a bang. Heather, Dante, Von, Aimee, and the SB agent end up at a hotel recovering and plotting their next moves. With all the torture that Dante dealt with he is in bad shape, having a hard time telling what is reality and dealing with awful events that happened to him in the past. The group decides that their best bet is to head home to New Orleans, the trip becomes tricky as half of them can't handle sunlight and [...]

The whole world is after Dante, it seems. And the pain of his traumatic past continues to haunt him and make him bleed. At the end of the book there are several unresolved villains and people with agendas after the poor tortured dude. They either want to kill him or use him for their own power. Is there no end to the stupidity of people? Using Dante is like trying to use a hurricane but no one seems to know it yet. There is no huge climax in this book. It ends on a hopeful note, with Dante creat [...]

There were some things I liked about this latest installment, but even more that I didn't like. The biggest thing that bothered me were the eight or so different story lines the reader was forced to endure. By the end of the book I was sitting there thinking, why on earth did we even need to know what Merri/Em, Gillseppe, Rutgers, Underwood, Purcell, Renata, Cortina, oh and Muvail/Justina were doing at all times???? Add to that, their story lines were never completed in this story and I was real [...]

  • Yodamom

This installment in the Maker series, slams you right into the action and never lets you rest. I think it is even better than the first tow books and darker. There is also some of the sweetest moments to date. Fantastic !!!Heather gives up her agent job to stay with Dante he is still having terrible seizures and is being hunted. It seems everyone wants a piece of him, of his power. His father is gone and the pain of that along with his powers are driving him over the edge. He struggles just to h [...]

This book was fabulous! So suspenseful! You never knew what was going to happen or why. There were so many different story lines and they each just left you hanging by your toes with – “What’s going to happen??” and of course what you thought would happen, didn’t. Dante is turning into someone no one would have guessed which I’m sure will shock the FBI, CIA and Shadow Branch (which I’m convinced exists in our government) in the Book #4. Not to mention all the other vampires that wa [...]

I honestly couldn't finish reading this. There were way too many characters, I didn't know what half of their motives were or what agency they were a part of. I wanted to read about Dante and Heather but from what I read, they weren't going to be making that much of an appearance in this book. They're part were so short that was partially the reason I stopped reading. I'm just disappointed with this one, and I loved the other 2. I love Dante's character and I'm just sad that I really couldn't re [...]

Another great book from Adrian Phoenix. Every character in this book is clearly visualized and feels absolutely real. The story is mesmerizing in it's complexity of emotions and motivations. When reading this story I had a real sense of emotions, colors, music, light and dark, sounds, textures, even tastes. Every sense was engaged. The plot may have been a tiny bit too complex; I might have been happier with one or two less players. But I'm willing to give Ms. Phoenix the benefit of the doubt an [...]

  • Stav

well done and captivating as the previous two books in the series. LOVE LOVE LOVE Dante. Still, the introduction of all these new FBI and SB agents in to get/use Dante. necessary perhaps, but just a little confusing everyone wants a piece of him for their own agenda. Excited that the new characters mean there has to be a 4th book coming

  • Crystal

The last 50 pages of this book was absolutely awesome! Most of the book though is filled with too many characters and it made the story very complicated. Dante and Heather did not really have a BIG role in the story until the end the ending was amazing and I am really hoping that quality carries over into the fourth book.

  • Krissi

It felt jumbled with so many voices piecing together the story. I would have preferred more of Heather and Dante interactions/dialogue.

  • Sara

I really liked Dante and Heather. I really enjoyed book 1 of this series, but as I read each progressive book I enjoyed them less and less. They got bogged down in all the extra storylines and miscellaneous characters. Dante and Heather, the main character, were only in about 1/3 of the book. I found myself skimming the chapters that focused on the other characters. If this is the trend, as it seems to be, I will not be continuing on with this series.

  • John

Not thrilled with how the Annie portion of the story played out, and given where things left off, not sure where that has to go, but overall did like this quite a bit. Some interesting twists and turns, a few unexpected losses and another great story.Unfortunately I don't have the rest. Time to hope I find them soon.

Review provided by Black Lagoon Reviews:Beneath the Skin, the third installment in the Maker’s Song series by Adrian Phoenix, picks up immediately following the events of In the Blood. As has come to be expected from this thrilling series, there’s a seemingly nonstop onslaught of danger as plots and players eager to both protect and/or obtain Dante come out from the shadows. With a wonderful build up of action and suspense throughout and a pinch of romance this is one novel, and series, that [...]

Third in The Maker's Song urban fantasy series set in New Orleans although this particular story takes place mostly in Oregon. The StoryCortini discovers the truth about Dante and crosses that line helping Heather, Dante, Von, and Annie escape from Special Agent-in-Charge Lyons to hole up in a motel for Dante and Von to Sleep. Only Morningstar breaks in putting Heather and Cortini to sleep then seduces Annie who can see him due to her mis-wired brain. Annie is all too willing to give Dante up to [...]

But there are a lot of people hunting them after what happened in the last book – and Dante’s secret is now well and truly shatteredWith multiple FBI agents, the Elohim from Gehenna, assassins, agents, vampires from several factions all vying for Dante’s attention, his life or his power, it’s a twisty maze to navigateEspecially since Dante’s mind is shattered, the past continually intruding into his daily senses and him [...]

Plot: I was so excited when I was able to finally get my hands on this book and get closer to being up-to-date with the series. The book quickly goes into where we left off in In Cold Blood, Heather and the gang continue to try to get back to New Orleans and figuring out how to control Dante's power. It was definitely filled with twist and turns that I was hoping for. We find out more about what Dante is and how his mind works along with his developing powers. I loved the parts where Dante flash [...]

At the ending of the last book, Dante had done some incredibly powerful and scary "magic" against the Fallen who were trying to claim. This book picks up right away, with Dante, Heather, Von, and Annie on the run from both the FBI and other agencies as well as any more Fallen who could be hunting Dante. Unfortunately, Dante's nasty past has caught up with him and threatens to consume his mind. With everyone gunning for both her lover and herself, Heather knows she must continue to protect Dante, [...]

The Fallen MakerI strongly recommend you read the previous books in this series (Rush of Wings and In the Blood) before reading this book. This installment picks up exactly where In the Blood leaves-off.Dante, Heather, Annie and Von are now on the lamb. Dante's true blood vampire and the "creawdwr" Maker identities have been unveiled to some of the most crooked souls on earth and in Gehenna (land where the fallen angels dwell). He is relentlessly and violently pursued by all, including the gover [...]

  • The BookWhisperer

The Maker's Song Series is definitely more of a Science Fiction than Romance novel. I have followed this series since the first book Rush of Wings. Every book furthers the journey for Dante Baptiste and Heather Wallace. These main characters are deep and troubled characters that appear to have been fated for one another. There are many sub stories that help build the momentum of the story for these main characters. Being hunted by almost everyone they encounter characters are added frequently to [...]
