This was a quick and easy read - a story of a young woman who moved from her native Finland to the UK for love. The story contains many factual observations of the differences between living in Finland and the UK; and having learned that the author herself moved from Finland to England and that she married an English man, I wonder exactly how much of the story is biographical. In the middle of the story I wanted to know how the relationship between the main characters, Kaisa and Peter, would tur [...]

I love the way Helena Halme writes, it's been a while since I've been this excited about reading! I wanted to find out what's going to happen with the characters that I fell in love with reading the previous books of the series, The Finnish Girl and The English Man. Mind you, I was also very frustrated with characters, why didn't Peter and Kaisa just communicate more? But that's just adds to the realness of the characters, they are young, they are just trying to find themselves and their place i [...]

Kaisa (pronounced Keesi) is a beautiful young Finnish girl stationed with her English husband Peter in a forlorn Scottish naval base in 1985. Peter is an officer in a nuclear submarine, and there is a real Cold War sense of dread underlying this tale of love torn asunder. We join this attractive, hopelessly young and ignorant couple as Peter is on his way to a court martial for thumping his erstwhile best friend Duncan for sleeping with Kaisa. Although Peter is not dismissed from his beloved nav [...]
