Love a hero who chases and Greg was just so charming and swoon-worthy while doing it!I was just about to write how I could've done without the mystery dragging on for so long but then realized it wasn't even solved. -____-Really? It wasn't even that interesting that I would want it dragged onto the next book.Besides that, Greg and Reagan were cute together and I have a bunch of quotes highlighted so that means I will be coming back and re-reading my favorite parts. :)Safety Gang: (view spoiler)[ [...]

3.5 Humor and Heart Filled Stars! Source: eARC for Honest Review Courtesy of Berkley | Penguin Group Greg Higgs is the funny guy of the group and Brad's BOQ roommate. But that humor is a shell to hide his past. Originally he just wanted to have some fun, but this opportunity is starting to mean more and more to him. Reagan Robilard is young and fresh out of college, but she wants to make something out of herself, and get away from her small town and low expectations of her family. So she takes t [...]

“Boys are weird…”Yes, they are and more the interesting for it!Reagan Robilard is the PR rep for Gregory Higgs’ Marine Corps boxing team. This is her first job after putting herself through university, so if she’s a bit unsure around all that raging testosterone, it’s understandable. Even though heels give her a mental boost she has to continue upping her game as she deals with a variety of seemingly innocent pranks regarding the team as well as resistance from the team athletes. Can't get into this one. Not feeling it may have to come back.

Find this review and more at Ramblings From This ChickAgainst the Ropes is the second book in the First to Fight series from Jeanette Murray. Though this is about another couple than the first book, the characters are connected and the story seems to continue from the first. I would recommend reading these in order as I was a little confused when starting this one since I hadn't read the first book. There was a lot going on when this one started and there were a lot of characters to try to figur [...]

It's no secret that I love sports romances. After seeing Creed over winter break, I knew that I was definitely in the mood for another fighter story, so I turned to Jeanette Murray's most recent release to quench my thirst. Reagan Robilard is just thankful she has a job when she's hired as the athlete liaison for the Marines boxing team. But when someone starts sabotaging the team, she finds her job becoming harder and harder. Gregory Higgs found a purpose with the Marines and, having fought his [...]

Against the Ropes by Jeanette Murray is the second book in her First To Fight series. It is the continuing story of the Marine boxing team we met in the first book, Below the Belt, and this book focuses on the story of Gregory Higgs and Reagan Robilard.Well-paced, great characters, with the element of suspense woven throughout these marines and their women will keep you enthralled page after page. Reagan is trying to keep the publicity for the boxing team in a positive light but with the vandal/ [...]

I can't rate this a four because I'm pissed I still don't know who's vandalising. Was it the intern kid? The punk who's on the team? The guy who got cut in the beginning? Now that they've left it for the next book possibly, is it Karas ex? Like, don't make me need to know, if you change couples in a series, you need to wrap it up every book. Luckily, I've always been into Kara and her son, and after seeing the way Graham is literally obsessed with her, I NEED to read it. Sigh. This always happen [...]

I struggled for 3 weeks now to finish this one. Not that it is bad, just that I couldn't garner much interest in any characters. They all seemed very superficial to me and I grew bored. After pick it up and down several times, I am finally giving it up and saying this one was for me. DNF

  • Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews3.5 starsAuthor Jeannette Murray created a fantastic backdrop for her First to Fight series in Below The Belt and introduced us to an interesting and diverse group of characters as well as giving us one heck of a romance. The series continues in Against the Ropes and I liked this book quite a bit but for me it didn’t have the same sparkle as the first one. While I liked both main characters, enjoyed seeing the secondary characters I didn’ [...]

3.75 stars--ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 6, 2015As a troubled teen, Gregory Higgs channeled his energy into boxing instead of breaking the law. My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: witandsin/2015/09Against the Ropes is a fast-paced, sensual romance with plenty of action and a whole lot of heart. Greg and Reagan are strong, likeable characters with hidden vulnerabilities that will call to you and their romance is one that will leave you with a smile on your face.Greg captured my interest in the first First to Fight book, Below the Belt. To all the world, Greg is a man who is quick on his feet and has charm to spare. He laughs easily [...]

  • Alex (HEABookNerd)

SERIES: First to Fight #2The pace was better than in the first book since there was a bit more going on. The team continues to practice but they also have a match and the vandalism ramps up. The vandalism continues but isn’t resolved so that mystery is still left open. I do have my suspicions on who’s causing it and I can’t wait to read the next one and if I’m right.Once again Jeanette Murray writes characters that are goofy and silly and I love it. Greg is great at bringing humor to a s [...]

Against the Ropes is the second book in Murray’s First to Fight series. It’s also the second book I’ve read with the same title in the last two years. The first one, a BDSM story, wasn’t much better written than this one, but it was funnier and edgier. Murray’s Against the Ropes fell solidly into the contemporary romance category, complete with too many over-used clichés and painfully predictable plot lines. There were even some grammatical errors that slipped in with wrong tenses and [...]

What do you get when you have a bunch of hot, sexy Marines who are also on the Marine Corp Boxing Team, the women they love and/or are falling for, some mystery and suspense centered around vandalism and pranks that are escalating, and just the testosterone charged air that fills the the gym where the hotties practice? A great story, that's what. Against the Ropes is Greg and Regan's story. He's one of the men on the boxing team who has been around a while, and who the others look up to. He has [...]

Rating: 3.5 starsGreg is on the Marine boxing team and Reagan is the teams liaison. Reagan is escaping from her family that cares little about what she dreams for her future and Greg is doing his all to forget his past. Greg is sweet and gentlemanly at the speed in which he approaches Reagan. They want a solid foundation for a relationship, so this aspect I enjoyed a lot in this novel. Against the Ropes ebbed and flowed for me. The vandalizing suspect is at it again, with no culprit in mind. Tho [...]

This is the second book in the series and picks up almost literally where the last one left off. This time, we have Greg Higgs, roommate to our last hero Brad. Greg is another of the "mini-plantoon" leaders and second in age to Brad. He has been taking everything pretty lackadaisically throughout, but once he makes the team, it hits him that he doesn't want to get sent home; he really does want to stay. His romance with the team PR Liaison, Reagan was so very scorchingly hot. They had some serio [...]

This is I believe my first adult romance and oh my gosh I loved it! I didn't know it was a series until I got to the end but it didn't seem to mean much that I hadn't read it. I might actually pick up the others in the series to read about the others! I know I'll be picking up the next one because I want to see if there will be more Greg and Reagan! Their romance was so cute and I got so attached to them, so hoping to read more about them in the future. Highly recommend!

  • CatherineWright (Cat's Guilty Pleasure)

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.I found this to be a really entertaining read, I really enjoyed. The characters are great and the romance is steamy. There is not a whole lot of action but we do see them in action trying to figure out who is behind the attacks. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Greg is a man with a past he isn't proud of. Reagan is starting out in her first job after graduating college as the public relations liaison for the Marines boxing team. Greg is determined to go after Reagan, but he wants to take it slow. Neither character really hooked me, but they weren't annoying either. Overall, it was a decent read.

  • Mary

I loved this book so much! Her characters are so strong in every book I've read of hers and it makes it a joy to read. All through the book I found myself thinking, "Oh my god! I totally say that all the time!" I feel like I just mesh well with her books and really can't wait for #3 in this series. If you haven't read one of Jeanette Murray's books I recommend you try this series.

  • Jaclyn

Didn't really connect with the characters and there wasn't really much of a conflict in the story. Also: a huge part was the vandalism in the gym, but it was never resolved. This is the only book in the series I've read so I unsure -- is that a thread that runs through the whole series and will be resolved at the very end?
